Knowledge of Bengali will be tested for candidates whose mother tongue is other than Bengali or Nepali, at the time of the computer and typing test. Candidature of candidates with average or poor performance in that test is liable to be cancelled.

Age limit

The age must be not below 18 years and not more than 45 years as on 1 January 2024, that is, born not earlier than 2 January 1979 and not later than 1 January 2006. Age as recorded only in the Madhyamik or equivalent certificate will be accepted. The age limits apply to all the candidates whether in Govt. service or not.

Category Relaxation in upper age limit
S.C. and S.T. candidates 5 years
O.B.C. (non-creamy layer) candidates of West Bengal 3 years
Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) Upper age limit relaxable up to 45 years

S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. candidates of other States are treated as general candidates, so no relaxation applies to them. The upper age limit is also relaxable for Ex-Servicemen who have put in not less than six months of continuous service in the Armed Forces of the Union. They deduct the period of service from the actual age, and the resulting age must not exceed the maximum age limit by more than 3 years.

Application fee

The fee is Rs 110, plus service charges wherever applicable, through online mode only. SC and ST candidates of West Bengal and PwBD candidates with physical disability of 40% and above are not required to pay any fee. OBC candidates have to pay the usual fee. No exemption of fee is available to SC and ST candidates of other States.

No claim for refund of the fee will be entertained, nor will it be held in reserve for any other examination.

Reservation

The benefits of reservation of vacancies are admissible to the following:

  • S.C., S.T. and O.B.C. (non-creamy layer) candidates of West Bengal only.
  • PwBD (with disabilities 40% and above) and Ex-Servicemen.
  • Meritorious Sportspersons in the area of International Competition, National Competition, Inter-University Tournament and National Sports/Games for School Education in the sports listed in the notice.
  • Economically Weaker Section (EWS) candidates of West Bengal.

Selection process

The examination will be held in two successive stages: Part-I (Objective Type) and Part-II (Conventional Type, Written). The notice does not name the subjects of either part.

  1. Part-I is held at the first instance.
  2. A limited number of candidates obtaining qualifying marks in Part-I will be allowed to appear in Part-II, on a subsequent date to be notified by the Commission.
  3. Elementary knowledge in computer operation and ability of typing on computer are judged only after candidates are found qualified in Part-I and Part-II.

There shall be negative marking of 0.25 mark for each wrong answer to multiple choice questions. A deduction of 10% of full marks is made in a paper of Part-II if a candidate discloses identity by writing a name, roll number or any identifying mark in the answer script.

The final merit list will be prepared on the basis of total marks obtained in the two parts, provided the candidates have been found qualified in the computer and typing test. A candidate who qualifies for Part-II but does not appear in it will not be considered for the final merit list.

Qualifying marks and tie breaking

The Commission has fixed category wise qualifying marks in aggregate, comprised of the marks obtained in Part-I and Part-II taken together.

Category Qualifying marks
UR 40%
EWS 40%
OBC 38%
SC 35%
ST 30%
PwBD 30%
Ex-Servicemen 30%
Meritorious Sports Person 40%

The Commission may further relax qualifying marks if a sizeable number of posts in reserved categories remain unfilled. In a tie, preference goes first to the candidate securing higher aggregate marks in English and Bengali/Hindi/Urdu/Nepali/Santali, then to higher marks in English, then to the candidate with higher age.
