The number of posts may go up or down depending on the department's needs, and selected candidates can be posted anywhere within the Pragpur division. These are honorarium posts outside the department's cadre, and the current government policy gives no right to regularisation.
Eligibility and qualification
Para Pump Operator
Matriculation (10th) with an ITI certificate in one of these trades: Electrician, Wireman, Diesel Mechanic, Pump Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Pump Operator cum Mechanic, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Pump Operation-cum-Mechanic, or Pump Operation and Maintenance. A 10th pass with a certificate in these trades under a Government skill development scheme also qualifies.
Para Fitter
Matriculation (10th) with an ITI certificate in Fitter or Plumber, or a certificate in those trades under a Government skill development scheme.
Multipurpose Worker
Middle pass (8th) or equivalent from a school recognised by the State Government. Every Multipurpose Worker applicant must attach the 8th standard marksheet.
SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates must attach a category certificate signed by the competent authority; without it, the application is treated as General. The EWS certificate must not be older than six months.
Age limit
18 to 45 years for all three posts.
Selection process: marks out of 10
If many more applications come in than there are posts, candidates are shortlisted on eligibility, and the shortlisted ones take a skill or physical test. The final merit list combines the documents you submitted with the test.

Experience counts only in a related field: Jal Shakti (IPH), HPPWD, CPWD, PSUs or an outsourcing agency serving the HP Jal Shakti Vibhag. It needs a certificate issued or countersigned by the department's EE or AE. Grades are not accepted: if your marksheet shows only a grade, get the marks or percentage written and stamped by your school.
What the skill test checks
Para Pump Operator
- Minor repair of pumps, finding faults or damage, and replacing defective parts.
- Test pressures and leakage, and adjusting the pump for the right water yield.
- Installing a pump at site, connecting it to the motor and aligning them with basic tools such as spanners and keys.
- Finding faults in the electrical system and motor.
- Dismantling and replacing worn parts, greasing and oiling moving parts, and pump lubrication and cooling.
- Operating the regulating valve and control mechanism of the pumping system.
Para Fitter
- Repairing water supply pipelines and stopping leaks, adding new connections and closing defunct ones.
- Pipe fitting, pipe sizes, operation and maintenance.
- Cutting threads on pipes with ratchet and die sets and fitting specials with basic tools.
- Village water supply layout and flow regulation.
