Important Dates and Examination Timeline

The Union Public Service Commission conducted the examination stages and announced the result.

The Union Public Service Commission declared the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination 2026 result on 16th October, 2026. The recommendations are based on the Stage-I (Preliminay) Examination held on 8th February, 2026. The Stage-II (Main) Examination was conducted on 20th & 21st June, 2026. The written examinations were followed by the Personality Test in the months of September, 2026. Recommendations have been finalized for Geologist Group 'A', Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) Group 'A' / Assistant Hydrogeologist Group 'B', Geophysicist Group 'A' / Scientist 'B' (Geophysics) Group 'A' / Assistant Geophysicist Group 'B', Chemist Group 'A', Scientist 'B' (Chemical) Group 'A', and Assistant Chemist Group 'B'.

Reported Vacancies by Category

The numbers of vacancies reported by the Government to be filled are as under.

For Geologist Group 'A', the numbers of vacancies reported by the Government to be filled are 21 including 10 GEN, 01 EWS, 06 OBC, 03 SC, and 01 ST. The reported vacancies for Geologist Group 'A' include 04 PwBD-1 backlog and 05 PwBD-3 with 04 backlog vacancies. For Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) Group 'A' and Assistant Hydrogeologist Group 'B', 23 vacancies were reported comprising 11 GEN, 02 EWS, 05 OBC, 04 SC, and 01 ST. For Geophysicist Group 'A', Scientist 'B' (Geophysics) Group 'A', and Assistant Geophysicist Group 'B', 05 vacancies were reported including 04 GEN and 01 OBC. For Chemist Group 'A', the vacancies reported by the Government include 07 GEN, 01 EWS, 05 OBC, 02 SC, and 01 ST, for a total of 16. For Scientist 'B' (Chemical) Group 'A', 02 vacancies were reported including 01 GEN and 01 OBC. For Assistant Chemist Group 'B', 02 vacancies were reported under GEN.

Reservation Policy and Category Recommendations

The number of candidates recommended for appointment to the respective posts are as under.

Under Geologist Group 'A', 20 candidates have been recommended for appointment including 09 GEN, 01 EWS, 06 OBC, 03 SC, and 01 ST. Due to non-availability of PwBD-3 candidate, 01 current Recruitment year vacancy of PwBD-3 will be carried forward to the subsequent recruitment year in terms of DoPT OM No. 36035/02/2017-Estt(Res) dated 15/01/2018. For Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) Group 'A' / Assistant Hydrogeologist Group 'B', 22 candidates are recommended comprising 10 GEN, 02 EWS, 05 OBC, 04 SC, and 01 ST. For Geophysicist Group 'A', Scientist 'B' (Geophysics) Group 'A', and Assistant Geophysicist Group 'B', 04 candidates are recommended including 03 GEN and 01 OBC. One OBC candidate will be considered against Unreserved vacancies in the Geophysics discipline. For Chemist Group 'A', 16 candidates are recommended comprising 07 GEN, 01 EWS, 05 OBC, 02 SC, and 01 ST. For Scientist 'B' (Chemical) Group 'A', 02 candidates are recommended including 01 GEN and 01 OBC. For Assistant Chemist Group 'B', 02 candidates are recommended under the General category.

Consolidated Reserve List Maintained under Rule 16

The Commission has maintained a consolidated Reserve List of candidates in order of merit.

In accordance with Rule 16 of the Combined Geo-Scientist Examination, 2026, the Commission has maintained a consolidated Reserve List of candidates. The Reserve List for Scientist 'B' (Hydrogeology) / Assistant Hydrogeologist comprises 02 candidates including 01 Gen and 01 OBC. The Reserve List for Geophysicist / Scientist 'B' (Geophysics) / Assistant Geophysicist comprises 02 candidates including 01 Gen and 01 OBC.

Provisional Results and Pre-Appointment Formalities

Appointments to the above said posts will be made by the Government according to the number of vacancies available and subject to fulfilling prescribed eligibility conditions.

Allotment of candidates to the services or posts shall be made in accordance with their merit position and preference of services opted by them. The Result of following Roll Nos. of recommended candidates are provisional across different posts. Provisional candidates include Roll No. 0690249 for Geologist, Roll Nos. 0790515, 0790971, 0990228 for Hydrogeologist, Roll No. 0290194 for Geophysicist, and Roll No. 0691071 for Chemist. The offer of appointment to candidates whose result has been kept provisional will not be issued till verification of original documents. The provisionality of these candidates will remain valid only for a period of three months from the date of declaration of Final result.
