UPTET 2026 result: how many passed
The commission held the written test at 955 centres in 60 districts. Because 1994661 candidates had registered, it spread the paper over 3 days and 5 shifts: 3 shifts for the upper primary level and 2 for the primary level. The result notice of 26 August 2026 gives these figures.
| Level | Appeared | Passed | Pass rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary (Class 1 to 5) | 713648 | 571435 | 80.07% |
| Upper primary (Class 6 to 8) | 1057021 | 759513 | 71.85% |
The pass rate was higher at the primary level, even though fewer candidates sat that paper. The two figures are level-wise; a candidate who took both papers is counted in each row.
Working teachers who took UPTET 2026
The commission also reported, separately, the results of working teachers who appeared.
| Level | Working teachers appeared | Passed | Pass rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary (Class 1 to 5) | 122405 | 93387 | 76.29% |
| Upper primary (Class 6 to 8) | 146394 | 113384 | 77.45% |
Unlike the overall figures, working teachers did slightly better at the upper primary level than at the primary level.
How the result was prepared: normalization
Since the same level was tested in more than one shift, the commission compared the papers of different shifts. The result notice says the result was prepared by the process given in point 09 of the advertisement. The 16 September 2026 notice explains this: the commission had said in its advertisement and notice before the exam that score normalization would apply if the exam ran over more than one day or shift. A software-based scientific formula was used to compare the difficulty of the papers given in different shifts, and the result was prepared on that basis.
The commission accepts that under normalization some candidates' marks go down and some go up. It also notes that courts have upheld the same process when other examining bodies used it.
Decision on complaints about the result
Many candidates sent representations asking for changes in the result. The commission set up a 6-member committee to examine them. The committee sorted the representations into 4 groups, and the commission decided each group as follows.
| Category | Complaint | Commission's decision |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Roll number or question booklet number circle filled wrongly in the OMR sheet, or both | Rejected. Candidates were told in the advertisement, admit card, OMR and by the invigilator that such an OMR would not be evaluated; scoring is fully automated |
| 2 | Score lowered by normalization | Rejected. Normalization is a scientific process announced before the exam |
| 3 | Low marks because of the answer key | Rejected, along with category 2. No change in marks or normalized score |
| 4 | Error in name, father's or husband's name, date of birth or category on the certificate | Accepted. Online correction applications to be taken through the commission's portal |
Put simply: the marks and the pass list stand as declared on 26 August 2026. Only personal details printed on a successful candidate's certificate can be fixed.
Eligibility certificate: which levels it covers
UPTET is the Teacher Eligibility Test of Uttar Pradesh. The 2026 test had two separate papers, and the certificate is issued for the level you cleared:
- Primary level, Class 1 to 5: tested in 2 of the 5 shifts. 571435 candidates passed out of 713648 who appeared.
- Upper primary level, Class 6 to 8: tested in 3 of the 5 shifts. 759513 passed out of 1057021.
If you sat both papers, check the download for each level you passed, since the result figures are kept level by level. If you passed only one level, the certificate covers that level alone. The notices do not say anything about the validity period of the certificate, so do not rely on any claim about that until the commission states it.
How to download the UPTET 2026 certificate
- Go to the commission's website, upessc.up.gov.in.
- Open the link given there for the UPTET 2026 certificate.
- Enter your roll number exactly as on your admit card.
- Enter your date of birth.
- Submit, check the certificate on screen, and download it as a file.
- Print a few copies and keep the file safely backed up.
The 7 September 2026 notice adds that the certificate will also be made available through DigiLocker from the commission's website as soon as possible. Until that link is live, use the website download.
What to check on the certificate
The correction decision of 16 September 2026 names the fields that can go wrong. Check each one the moment you download the file:
- your name, letter by letter;
- father's or husband's name;
- date of birth;
- category (class).
Also confirm that the level printed (primary, Class 1 to 5, or upper primary, Class 6 to 8) matches the paper you passed. If you passed both levels, make sure you have both.
How to get a wrong certificate corrected
- Read the correction guidelines the commission has uploaded on upessc.up.gov.in.
- Open the correction link, certificates.upessc.org, given on the commission's website.
- Fill in the online application yourself with the correct details.
- Pay the correction fee of Rs 200 (Rupees two hundred only).
- Download the revised certificate once it is issued.
Two rules in the 25 September 2026 notice need care. First, applications by post or through a representation are not accepted; only the online route counts. Second, a certificate can be corrected only once. After one correction no further chance is given, so enter every change in the same application and double check it against your high school certificate and category certificate before you pay.
Documents to keep ready
The notices ask only for the roll number and date of birth to download, and for an online form to correct. Going by the fields that can be corrected, these are the papers worth having in hand:
- UPTET 2026 admit card, for the roll number;
- high school certificate, for the spelling of your name, parent's name and date of birth;
- caste or category certificate, if the category on the certificate is wrong;
- a working payment method for the Rs 200 fee, if you need a correction.
Points to note
- Use only the official website. The download link is on upessc.up.gov.in and the correction link is certificates.upessc.org, as named by the commission.
- No re-evaluation. Complaints about OMR bubbling, normalization and the answer key were all turned down on 16 September 2026.
- One correction only. Rs 200 buys one corrected certificate. A second mistake will not be fixed.
- DigiLocker is coming, not here yet. The notice says it will be added as soon as possible.
