A one-year contract at the TISS Health Centre in Deonar
The Tata Institute of Social Sciences has advertised for a Medical Officer to cover night duty and holiday duty at its Health Centre on the Deonar campus in Mumbai. The advertisement, numbered ADVT/TISS/MO/SEP/2026 and dated 25 September 2026, is for 1 (one) to 2 (two) posts on contract, with online applications closing on 5th October, 2026.
MBBS, BAMS or BHMS all qualify, as long as the council registration is current
TISS will accept MBBS, BAMS or BHMS graduates for this post, provided the degree is recognised by the National Medical Commission or the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine, and the candidate is registered with the NMC or a State Medical Council. A postgraduate qualification in Medical Sciences is listed as desirable, not mandatory, so a fresh MBBS graduate who meets the registration and experience conditions is not ruled out by the desirable line.
One year of hospital experience, and an age ceiling tied to a specific date
The notice asks for one year of working experience in a hospital attached to a Medical College or a Corporate Hospital. The age limit is set as below 65 years as on 30th September, 2026, so a candidate needs to check her or his date of birth against that exact reference date rather than the application date or the closing date.
Twelve-hour night shifts, four to five times a week, on a contract that can run out early
The post is a night duty and holiday duty role: the work hours are stated as 12 hours of night duty or holiday duty, four to five times a week. Applying without a Gmail account is not an option here
TISS's application process runs entirely online through the Apply Now link on www.tiss.ac.in, but the notice adds one specific instruction: candidates must provide a Gmail ID in the online application form. After submitting, candidates are told to print the acknowledgment of their online application and retain it, since TISS will contact shortlisted candidates by email to appear for what it calls a Personal Interaction, held in person at TISS Mumbai. The notice states plainly that requests for an online Personal Interaction will not be entertained, so a shortlisted candidate should expect to travel to Deonar rather than interview by video call.
What a call letter alone does not guarantee
The notice warns that merely holding the prescribed qualification and experience does not entitle a candidate to an interview call, since applications may be shortlisted first. It also states that no queries about the interview call letter or the selection process will be entertained at any stage, and that canvassing in any form will lead to the candidate being debarred from consideration.
