CMRL is hiring seven senior posts on contract or deputation, not through an exam
Chennai Metro Rail Limited has issued Employment Notification No. CMRL-HR-CON-DEP-05-2026, dated 23 September 2026, inviting applications for Joint General Manager (Project Management Information System), Joint General Manager (Rolling Stock), Deputy General Manager (Finance & Accounts), Manager (Finance & Accounts), Manager (Design), Assistant Manager (Design) and Assistant Manager (Transport Planning), each carrying 1 post in the notification's table. These are contract or deputation appointments filled by direct interview and medical examination, not a written test. Applications close on 13 October 2026, and the notice is signed by the Chief General Manager (HR & Legal).

Deputationists get a choice: draw their parent-department pay with deputation allowance and project allowance at 10% of Basic Pay each, or move to the equivalent CMRL IDA pay scale with IDA, HRA and Cafeteria Allowance of 31.5% of Basic Pay.
The experience bar depends on which sector you are coming from
For the two Joint General Manager posts, the notification asks for a minimum of 15 years of post-qualification executive experience, but the path differs by background: a Government applicant must be serving in Junior Administrative Grade in Railways or an equivalent State cadre, a Metro/PSU applicant must have worked at least 4 years as DGM on the IDA scale of Rs. 80,000 to Rs. 220,000, and a private-sector applicant must show 4 years in a senior role reporting to top management at a company with a project size of at least Rs. 500 Crore or an annual turnover of at least Rs. 100 Crore in the last 3 years, with documentary proof to be uploaded. The Assistant Manager posts ask for only 2 years of post-qualification experience, or 10 years for Metro/PSU applicants already on the IDA scale of Rs. 33,000 to Rs. 100,000 and above.
Why age relaxation here can stretch past the usual limits
The notification allows 5 years of age relaxation for Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Caste (Arunthathiyars) and Scheduled Tribes candidates, 2 years for Most Backward Classes, Denotified Communities and Backward Classes, up to 10 years for a Differently Abled Person applying by direct recruitment, and for Ex-Servicemen the prescribed age limit plus their length of service in the armed forces plus 3 years. It caps the combined effect of all relaxations at 58 years as on the date of the notification, regardless of how many concessions apply to one candidate.
How the fee actually gets paid, bank details included
Unreserved and other category candidates transfer a non-refundable Rs. 300/- and SC/ST candidates Rs. 50/-, by NEFT or UPI to CMRL's own account: Beneficiary M/S Chennai Metro Rail Limited, Canara Bank account 0416214000030, IFSC CNRB0000416, Teynampet branch, Chennai, then upload the payment receipt in the online form. Differently Abled persons pay nothing but must upload their disability certificate. The notification warns that a fee once paid is not refunded under any circumstances.
The three-step online registration CMRL describes
Applications go only through https://careers.chennaimetrorail.org/, never by hard copy. The notification sets out the process as: register with a valid email id, click the verification link CMRL sends to that email to log in, then fill every section of the form and upload the listed self-attested documents, including a passport photo up to 2 MB in JPEG or PNG. Deputation applicants additionally upload their last 5 years of ACRs, a vigilance clearance and integrity certificate, and a proforma certificate from their current organisation's HR. Anyone already employed in Government or a PSU must route their application through proper channel to hr@cmrl.in and carry an NOC to interview.
What happens after the interview: a medical test you pay to repeat
Selection is a two-stage process, interview followed by a medical examination. CMRL bears the cost of the first medical exam, but if a candidate later asks for an extension to join, the cost of a second medical exam falls on the candidate, along with their own travel to and from the test. A candidate who fails the prescribed medical test gets no alternative posting, and CMRL's decision on that is final.
