Important dates and the extension
The notice itself fixed one window. The Board's portal timeline, as shown on 7 October 2026, lists the first window as completed and a second window as in progress.
| Stage | Date |
|---|---|
| First window opened (as per the notice) | 8 September 2026 |
| Fee deadline in the first window | 22 September 2026 |
| Form filling, corrections and declaration upload, first window | Up to 24 September 2026 |
| Second window (extension) | 25 September 2026 to 9 October 2026 |
| Last date for fee payment | 8 October 2026 |
| Last date for registration form filling | 9 October 2026 |
In the first window the notice kept a two-day gap on purpose: fee by 22 September, form filling up to 24 September, so that a school which had paid could still finish forms left out. The extension keeps the same pattern with a one-day gap: fee by 8 October, forms by 9 October. A school that pays on 8 October has only 9 October to complete the form and upload the declaration.
Who must register for Inter Exam 2028
Regular students
Students who passed 10th, Madhyamik or Matric from BSEB Patna or another recognised board, such as CBSE, ICSE, the Bihar Sanskrit Shiksha Board or the Madrasa Board, and who are duly admitted in Class 11 for session 2026-28, are registered as regular examinees. This covers Arts, Science, Commerce and vocational students.
A student admitted in session 2026-28 who plans to take the examination in 2028 or a later year must register in this session. Registration for session 2027-29 cannot be done on the strength of a 2026-28 admission; that student would have to take admission in Class 11 again. A registration is valid for three examination sessions only.
Private (independent) students
- Only the Arts and Commerce faculties are open to private candidates. There is no private route in Science or in vocational courses.
- A residential certificate of the district, issued by the competent officer of the student's home district, is compulsory.
- Male students must appear within 3 years of passing 10th, so those who passed in 2025 or earlier can register. Female students get one more year, so those who passed in 2026 or earlier can register.
- Their forms are also filled by the head of a recognised institution in the same window.
Students who need not register again
Already registered candidates who appear in the session 2026-28 examination as compartmental, qualifying, improvement or previous-category examinees do not register again.
Registration fee
| Fee item | Regular and vocational | Private |
|---|---|---|
| Registration application fee | Rs 60 | Rs 60 |
| Online fee (Rs 30 of it stays with the institution) | Rs 55 | Rs 55 |
| Registration fee | Rs 400 | Rs 400 |
| Permission fee | Not charged | Rs 400 |
| Total | Rs 515 | Rs 915 |
| Immigration fee (10th passed from another board only) | Rs 200 | Rs 200 |
| Total for a student who passed 10th from another board | Rs 715 | Rs 1,115 |
The Rs 30 kept by the institution out of the Rs 55 online fee is meant for filling the student's online form and downloading the dummy and original registration certificate. A student who passed 10th from another board must also hand the original Migration Certificate to the institution, and the head is answerable for it.
How schools pay the fee
The head pays first, for exactly as many students as forms are being filled; forms are accepted only after that. The notice gives the reason: in past years some heads did not pay on time and students' results were withheld. Payment modes:
- E-challan: cash at any Indian Bank branch, only into the account printed on the e-challan, never directly into the Board's account. One challan, one payment; amounts of several challans cannot be clubbed.
- NEFT: check the account number, IFSC code and Total Amount on the payment advice. A different amount makes the NEFT fail and the money returns. Never combine several payment advices in one NEFT. The bank's own NEFT charge is separate. Confirm with the bank within 24 hours that the payment went through. If the account's CIF number has special characters, they must be removed before NEFT works.
- Online: credit card, debit card or net banking.
How to apply: steps on the portal
- The head of the +2 school or college opens intermediate.biharboardonline.com and clicks Intermediate Registration 2026-28.
- Log in with the institution's User ID and password, issued earlier through the District Education Officer.
- Download the registration form, two copies per student, and give them to students to fill their subjects and details.
- Pay the fee under Registration Payment and check Payment Status.
- Fill the registration form online. For regular students, Part A (serial 1 to 17) is pre-filled from OFSS admission data and cannot be changed; Part B (serial 18 to 36) is filled from the student's form.
- Download three copies of the filled form: two signed and sealed copies go to the student, one stays in the office.
- Correct any error the student marks on the copy, online.
- Download the pre-filled declaration form from the Declaration Upload menu, get it signed by the student, a parent or guardian and the head, and upload it. The form is submitted only after this upload; without it the registration stays incomplete.
- View the registration details to confirm.
Photo, signature and ID details
| Item | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Photo size | 35 mm x 30 mm, jpg or jpeg, 40 to 100 kb |
| Face size | 25 mm x 20 mm |
| Background | Plain white or light green |
| Signature | jpg or jpeg, 3.5 cm wide x 1 cm high, 5 to 20 kb |
A photo of any other size will not upload. The Aadhaar number goes at serial 18 of Part B for regular students and at serial 15 for private students. A student without Aadhaar fills the declaration at serial 19 (regular) or serial 16 (private). The school's U-DISE+ Code and the student's APAAR ID are entered where the form asks, if they exist.
Subject choice: what the form locks in
The examination form and fee for 2028 will be accepted only in the subjects registered now, so the subject entries matter more than anything else on the form.
Arts, Science and Commerce
- Language 1: Hindi or English, 100 marks.
- Language 2: one of Hindi, English, Urdu, Maithili, Sanskrit, Prakrit, Magahi, Bhojpuri, Arabic, Persian, Pali or Bangla not taken as language 1, 100 marks.
- Electives 1 to 3: three subjects of the student's own faculty, 100 marks each.
- Optional additional subject: another language, another subject of the faculty, Computer Science, Multimedia and Web Technology, or (Arts only) Yoga and Physical Education.
Every student studies 05 subjects: the two languages and three electives. One additional subject is allowed on top.
Vocational course
Vocational trades started in identified +2 schools from session 2022-24: Security, Beautician, Tourism, Retail Management, Automobile, Electronics and H/W, Beauty and Wellness, Telecom, and IT/ITeS. In such schools 25 students take one trade. Elective 1 is the Foundation Course (100 marks); Electives 2 and 3 are Paper I and Paper II of the chosen trade, each 50 theory plus 50 practical, 100 marks. Passing the trade is compulsory, but its marks do not count for division and cannot be swapped for another subject. Students of schools without a trade cannot choose one. The subject scheme in force since session 2019-21 continues for 2026-28.
Points to check before 9 October
- Pay by 8 October. The portal closes fee payment a day before form filling. A form without fee will not be accepted.
- Upload the declaration. A filled form without the signed declaration is not submitted.
- Check Part A against school records. The head must match the form with the admission register, and no change is allowed after registration.
- Migration certificate. A student who passed 10th outside BSEB pays Rs 200 more and must deposit the original certificate.
- Private Science is not possible. A private candidate who wants Science has no route under this notice.
- Institution status. Schools whose recognition is cancelled, suspended or withdrawn cannot register students. If that happens to a school with admitted students, the District Education Officer attaches them to a nearby recognised institution and gets their registration done. Minority institutions whose admissions were updated on the Board portal instead of OFSS register in the same window.
